The Aftermath

Welcome to the aftermath, a consequence of thermal pathology; follow me 'cause there ain't gonna be a second lesson.
Boundary conditions are thus: thirty seven Celsius minus or plus a little for natural circadian progression.
But there are people up above who shove around at less than negative seventy but are positive chemically alive.
Thriving in spite of depriving conditions and with unending conviction to find us. The dead have arrived.
This is the winter of our summers' regret - perpetual promise of futures that are already set.
God damn, what would I give to see the sky again, but the surface's purpose re-purposed for prodigal sin.
So children stoke the fires and keep the furnaces hot. Maybe one day in the future we can reap what we wrought.
But for now, lets keep a thousand meters of stone between us and them, and bide our time in the prison that we are self-condemned.

Into the night we wander,
Past the ruins 'neath the sea,
Past the ones that we could be.
Through the night we are strangers.
In the meadow by the trees,
Maybe we could set it free.
